You would think that an innocent looking woman like Mississippimama above would not be a defender of the Ku Klux Klan, but it was her and her young daughter who seem to be defending the klan according to the post. And they have the courage to complain about the so called “Yankee Government School System”! Oh and guess what…some of those in white robes were Yankees! You can read all the details here. Unbelieveable!
Wow. That conversation is some of the most sickening I have read in a long time.
You need to give them this much — there’s a recognition that, in many respects, the Reconstruction-era Klan was a direct extension of the Confederate cause generally, and that there was little (if any) distinction made at the time between the night riders and former Confederate soldiers. One need only look at old issues of the Confederate Veteran or books like this one to see that well into the 20th century, Confederate veterans’ groups and organizations like the UDC heaped praise on the Klan, and were in many cases proud to be associated with them.
So it shouldn’t surprise one, strictly speaking, that these present-day folks view the Reconstruction-era Klan as being an extension of the Confederacy they so admire — because that’s the way it was seen by many white Southerners at the time. What surprises and appalls is that these folks go into all sorts of rhetorical and logical contortions to deny the terror, murder and intimidation represented by the Klan, and attempt to pass it off as violence by pro-Union groups like the Loyal League. Their great-great-granddaddies did exactly the same thing at the time. It’s an old, old game they’re playing.
Really what great granddaddies? Yours perhaps. How does a blog feed off another site? Boredom perhaps.
