Even though the Spielberg move on Lincoln was released in November I was just able to find time to get out and see the movie last night. This is not going to be a glowing review of the movie since so much has been written about it on numerous blogs. However I am going to take Keith Harris’ advice from his blog, Cosmic America. I thought the movie was excellent, but I understand that its dialogue heavy style it would not be overly popular with majority of American’s who are used to more action packed movies like the ones seen in the previews. What I hope happens with people who saw the movie and want to know more and understand more about the man at the center of the movie is to go out and pick up a copy of David Herbert Donald’s “Lincoln”.
That being said, there are a couple of fellow blogger posts I think anyone who sees the movie should also read. One deals with the Hampton Roads Conference seen near the end of the movie discussed by Brooks Simpson and the other deals with the Emancipation Proclamation from Andy Hall. Both do a great job placing the events in the movie in better historical context.

Reblogged this on vizualbusinessbd.
Glad you got to finally see the movie, Corey. My wife and I enjoyed it very much but while watching it I could not help but think what the Southern Heritage crowd was going to make of it. I was not surprised by their reactions.

Nobody’s offered me enough money to go see it yet.
Connie,
Long time, no text, good to hear from you again.
Question. If I give you the money for the price of a ticket to the movie Lincoln, would you go see it?
Sincerely,
Neil
Hi, Neil,
Hope you had a merry Christmas and the New Year bodes well for you and yours.
I’m afraid the answer to your question is in the negative. I have absolutely no interest in seeing that movie.
Connie
I saw it.
Someone would have to pay me to see it again – about $500.
About the same way I feel about Gods & Generals or Letters from Iwo Jima .
And I can hardly wait for it to come out on DVD so I can purchase it…, but not for $500.
Hey, Connie, had a good Christmas and a quiet New Year. Tell you what, since you don’t want to spend your hard-earned cash on going to see the movie, how about I mail you the DVD when I buy it? Can’t beat that! No money involved and a Yankee paying for it!
Take care,
Neil
Very generous offer Neil, what do you say Connie?
Corey,
Although Connie and I are pretty much at logger-heads about the American Civil War, we have gotten to know each other through our similar likes in music. I count Connie as a friend and am not trying to trap her or embarass her with my offer to view the movie Lincoln. Though we stand at opposite sides historically, I have no problem whatsoever with her personally.
Just thought you should know where I am coming from.
Sincerely,
Neil
