Let us continue to vet David’s claims of Confederate Heritage Destruction. You will note that David is currently O-2 based on the quick research I did using Google for two places David said were under attack: Dixie State University and the Confederate Monument in Jefferson, Georgia.
Silent Sam at the University of North Carolina.
It appears that in 2000 a professor on campus pushed to have the Silent Sam Confederate Monument remove. It is now 2013 and Silent Sam is still there and was the topic of a lecture back in January on the UNC campus. It does not appear that Silent Sam is going anywhere soon, but you can read some more information at the following links and decide for yourself. But one can only wonder why some people might see a problem with Silent Sam’s presences. This is a quote taken from the dedication of the monument back in 1913…nearly 100 years ago.
“At the dedication celebration, Julian Shakespeare Carr, namesake of Carrboro and Carr Hall, gave a speech where he triumphantly exclaimed,
“I horse-whipped a Negro wench, until her skirts hung in shreds” for insulting a white woman on Franklin Street.
You can find the speech here

David is now 0-3…ouch!
Texas State House Supreme Court Building Plaques
Two plaques in the SC building were removed way back in 2000 and in 2010 the 3rd Court of Appeal ruled that the state had the right to remove the plaques. The way I see it…it’s a state’s rights issue…one I am sure David would back fully since we all know that the War of the Rebellion was fought over State’s Rights and not slavery…Right? But if you don’t believe that here are some links to the story…decide for yourself.
Court Rules on Confederate Plaques…
Somehow the Neo-Confederates think they won…
“Ten years ago, state officials removed two plaques honoring Confederate veterans from the Texas Supreme Court building. That led to a long legal fight, and a ruling Friday afternoon by the 3rd Court of Appeals.
The ruling affirms that the state had the right to remove the plaques in the first place. But, representatives for the Sons of Confederate Veterans still called the ruling a victory.
“Some may claim the state won this case, but any citizen in the state can tell that the SCV won, because the state is having to pay the SCV’s attorney fees,” Ray James, the Texas Division Commander said in a statement. “In our legal system, the loser pays the winner,” James added.”
SLRC and Kirk Lyons on YouTube… such a funny little man!
I don’t know…feel like this is sort of a tie…so David is 0-3-1?
Still more to come…stay tuned!

Dave removed the Jefferson post after I posted several sites demonstrating that the monument in Jefferson sat in a park that continuous got smaller and small due to the creation of more roads, buildings and eventually increased traffic. This caused the monument damage. It was actually in protection of the monument that it was moved by the city council…..15 feet over.
Rob, great comment but don’t you understand moving it from where they put it first is an afront to confederate heritage? Same goes for the monument in Reidsville, Va…they want to put it right back where it can be hit by another car(s)
So are we to assume that some forms of protection are really destruction?
I’m becoming confused as to what “defending” heritage actually implies.
Rob, don’t worry it is not an exact science…they have no idea either!
