Tonight, May 2, 2013 we remember the mortal wounding of Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson by his own troops while scouting the Federal lines at the Battle of Chancellorsville. Jackson would die about a week later on May 10, 1863. It appears that the Stonewall Brigade SCV’s Camp and Brandon Dorsey are planning to erect a new statue of Jackson near Lexington. As you can see from the “artist” sketch above and from the Facebook image the new Stonewall Jackson statue is looking like it will be in the same vane as the Ugly General Forrest statue below. But the question is why produce such ugly artwork in memory of such a honored hero? Is it a pretext to put up more confederate battle flag displays? Whatever happened to realistic statues and monuments to our heroes?
