And one very unique reminder of how close we really are to the Civil War generation. This is a picture of (l to r) my Mother Carole, my Great Grandmother Elvira, Me on her lap and my Grandfather Lloyd. Elvira’s Father was a Civil War veteran as were three of her Uncles on her Mother’s side. Her Father, Ignatius served in the 106th Illinois Infantry while her Uncles served in the 86th Illinois Infantry and 34th Illinois Infantry. The two who served with the 34th, transferred late in the war from the 86th and died during the war. My Grandfather was born a year before his Grandfather died in 1914. It is hard to believe that this year would have been my Grandfather’s 100th birthday.
How very close indeed!
