Oh my where to begin. This little speech given by Michael Cushman of SNN is one neo-confederate love fest that decries the supposed “death” of the white southerner. From what I heard Cushman say, the mid-twentieth century white southerner is alive and well.
To start out with he mentions the upcoming anniversary of the Burning of Darien, Georgia by the US government without mention of the ongoing Civil War that was ravishing the entire country. However it appears that Darien is now cashing in on this historical event for the 150th of the Civil War.
Cushman then goes on for several minutes about how Florida has been overrun by third world immigrants (code for non-white) and liberal Yankee transplants and that the white southerner is being run out of town by these two groups. He compares Broward Co., Florida and Dixie Co., Florida which are the opposites in size and population make-up. Cushman uses this comparison to “prove” to his audience which is old and white that white southerners like them are being targeted by the US government for what he later claims under international law is “Genocide” of the White Southerner.
Cushman then moves on to discuss the notion of the Golden Circle of the Plantation civilization that help form the southern civilization that is now being destroyed by the US government is what apparently is the last act of the “War of Northern Aggression”.
As you listen to the speech you will notice many historical inaccuracies and disputable historic theories of people like George Wallace and Robert Barnwell (Smith) Rhett, but the ones that stand out to me are the claims of “Southern Genocide” and his claim that a once South Carolina governor from Massachusetts ran SC from Massachusetts. Cushman makes the claim without any evidence to back it up other that making fun of Janet Napolitano’s looks that she and others in the US government are by all standards of international law…don’t ask which ones as no one knows…the US is purposefully pushing white southerner out of specific regions like Broward County, Florida in attempts to change political policy and destroy the south and southern civilization. It is also decided by Cushman that the only way in which southern civilization can survive is the dissolution of the Union. Did he not pay attention in history class when the south tried to do this once before?
During this tirade on genocide Cushman makes a claim that at previous points in history the south has defeated the US government. He is referring to Wade Hampton’s redemption of South Carolina from the ruthless and black led carpetbagger Yankee government in South Carolina that attempted to give blacks their rights following the War of the Rebellion. He proves this point by stating that at one point a Yankee South Carolina governor actually served as governor but not living in South Carolina and ruling from Massachusetts. However, I could not find any information to substantiate this claim and I don’t believe I will.

Is what Connie says racist…if the ends are speeches like Michael Cushman’s at the Florida League of the South…then yes…it is.
